Taxidermy Print E-mail

To preserve wildlife of all sizes…from small bird heads to medium-sized fish bodies to large deer antlers…taxidermists rely on a variety of polyurethanes. The materials are ideal for taxidermy because many of the systems are economical and easy to handle for either hand casting or rotomolding. Polyurethanes are available as rigid foams as well as Shore D harness systems for excellent durability. Also popular for taxidermy are RTV silicone rubber moldmaking materials.

Innovative Polymers taxidermy products include:

Advanced Shore D Polyurethanes are tough enough to produce long-lasting, highly detailed replications of wildlife in all sizes and shapes. Translucent products are well suited for forming fish fins. Many of the Shore D hardness systems are also ideal for building taxidermy cores and for silicone mold back-up jackets.

Polyurethane Foams in 4 lb. and 6 lb. densities are used to produce rigid taxidermy cores of all sizes.

Silicone Moldmaking Materials are suitable for building flexible molds as well as “glove” molds that can be backed with economical polyurethanes to reduce the cost of preserving large parts.
